A new £3million Community Enterprise Centre is proposed for Croeserw in the heart of the Afan Valley.
With the existing community centre in need of major investment, the council has recently submitted a bid for European funding for a new state of the art facility that will serve the community for many years to come.
Plans have been drawn up in consultation with residents for the new building which is proposed for the former Rhiw Lech View site. These are set to go on display at a final consultation event at the existing community centre on 2nd June for a two week period.
Local residents, businesses, schools and voluntary organisations can have their say on the plans for the new building that will provide a variety of specialist and joint use accommodation. These will include areas for childcare, health, local community use including dedicated youth areas and community enterprise development.
Ali Thomas, Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council, said, “Our community centres play an important role in our towns and villages. The current facilities were deemed to be out dated and in need of repair. If the bid for funding is successful the preferred option is to develop a new community centre because it would not be economical to carry out the renovation works needed.
“We have consulted residents, businesses, voluntary organisations and business leaders and taken on board their views in preparation of the plans for the site. Residents now have the opportunity to comment on the final proposals.”
