Pumpkin competition helps to launch Angle’s RNLI lifeboats

For 15 years the RNLI’s Angle lifeboat station has benefited from proceeds of an annual pumpkin competition, in which five pubs in south-west Pembrokeshire battle for the honours.

This year, Stackpole Inn was the overall winner of the competition with a total weight of its six pumpkins reaching 505 lbs 9 ozs. The other pubs taking part were the Highgate Inn, Hundleton; Speculation Inn, Hundleton; St. Govan’s Inn, Bosherston, and the Hibernia Inn, Angle.

The presentation ceremony, which is always hosted by the Highgate Inn, was held on Friday (15 October). The main organisers of the competition have been Graham and Jean Cox, from Hundleton, with the help of Graham Shepherd. Mr and Mrs Cox have now retired as main organisers.
