Raising cash and planting trees for a good cause

Planting TreesAs well as raising lots of money for this year’s Children in Need appeal, pupils in New Tredegar have been doing their bit for their environment too by sprucing up the area outside their school.

An army of children and teachers in fancy dress turned out to plant native and wildlife-friendly shrubs and bulbs outside White Rose Primary School in New Tredegar last week.

It was quite a sight for local residents and hopefully their efforts will help further improve the attractiveness of their community when the native bulbs flower up in the spring.

CCBC cabinet member for the environment, Cllr Lyn Ackerman said “Thanks to everyone who got their hands dirty today. This shows that by working together we can make a big difference to the quality of our environment. The event is of one of many that will be taking place across the County Borough in the next couple of weeks all with the aim of making our area a cleaner, safer, greener place to live and work”.

The activity was supported by Caerphilly county borough council and local ward member Cllr Les Rees added “This shows that local children care about their neighbourhood and their efforts today will help brighten up the village. We should all be very proud of what the staff and children have done for their community today for both the environment and children in need”.
