Ramsay: Welsh Ministers dragging feet over Enterprise Zones

Commenting on the announcement by the UK Government of Enterprise Zones in Warrington and Hereford, in addition to those already announced near the Welsh border, Nick Ramsay AM, Shadow Minister for Business, Enterprise, Technology & Science, said:

“The UK Government has now announced five new Enterprise Zones near the Wales-England border which will help stimulate economic growth in those areas.

“The Enterprise Zones policy was first announced back in March.  Five months later, Welsh Labour Ministers continue to drag their feet and have so far failed to put forward plans for a single Enterprise Zone in Wales, which will help boost our economy, attract investment and create employment opportunities.

“Unless Welsh Labour Ministers move swiftly potential investors could choose to establish new businesses in England instead of creating jobs here in Wales.

“The latest unemployment figures confirm the fragility of Wales’ economic recovery and emphasise the need for Welsh Labour Ministers to introduce Enterprise Zones to stimulate economic growth.

“The First Minister needs to stop whingeing about economic conditions and start using the tools at his Government’s fingertips to deliver growth and jobs for families across Wales.”
