Re-cycled Cycle Boosts the Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal

A very special bike is being used in a sponsored 200 mile ride to raise money for the Lord Mayor’s nominated charity.

The bike has been assembled by the Cardiff Cycle Workshop – a community enterprise based in Ely – using parts from unwanted bicycles, either donated by members of the public or left at some of the city’s Household Waste Recycling Centres.

Cardiff Council employee John Holloman, who is based at the Mansion House and supports the Lord Mayor, Councillor Delme Bowen with his charity work, has set himself the challenge of cycling to and from work every day for a week to raise funds that will go to help Cancer Research Wales with it’s vital work.

At the end of John’s grueling week in the saddle, those who have sponsored him will have the chance to win the bike in a raffle.

John said: “I am not a bike rider at all so this is a pretty daunting challenge but I am delighted to be raising money for such a worthy charity that does such great work.”

Councillor Bowen said: “Cancer Research Wales is a charity that’s very dear to my heart and I was delighted when John told me of his plan to help raise money with this challenge. Not only will the money he raises to help Cancer Research do a great deal of good, John will have reduced his carbon footprint and helped to highlight the fabulous work of Cardiff Cycle Workshop who  transform one persons junk into another’s sustainable transport.”

John can be sponsored on-line at www.justgiving.com/JohnHolloman1 or by sending a cheque payable to Cardiff Council Lord Mayor’s Charity to: Protocol Office, Mansion House, Richmond Road, Cardiff CF24 3UN, remembering to write a contact telephone number on the back.
