Each year local authorities have to deal with thousands of tonnes of Christmas rubbish.
Neath Port Talbot Council are urging you to think of alternative gifts to the bulky packaged aftershaves, perfumes and shiny toys.
Think about a membership to a local fitness club, a day at the races or a weekend at a health spa.
The authority is also urging you to recycle your cards and tree and dispose of your old electrical products safely and environmentally friendly.
The council operates several recycling facilities and can also arrange for your old white goods and TVs to be collected and disposed of safely.
