Refuse and Recycling Collections update

Council Refuse and Recycling staff have now almost cleared the collection backlog caused by the ongoing inclement weather and unprecedented demand on the service.

Refuse collections are now up to date across Taf Ely and the Rhondda after staff worked across the weekend to ensure the service was brought up to date.

However, due to access problems, there remain some uncollected refuse items in the Hillcrest and Hillbrook areas of Aberaman and also parts of Trefelin, Trecynon. Collection from these areas is set to take place today or tomorrow, depending on how soon the access problems can be resolved.

Recycling collection is still outstanding in a number of areas across the county, especially in side streets where the road surface is icy and access is restrictive.

However, collection staff remain at work across the county as per normal today, making collections, checking areas that have yet to receive collections and to also ensure plans are made to complete any outstanding work as soon as conditions improve.

Nigel Wheeler, Service Director for Street Care, explained: “We are aware of the inconvenience and concern the backlog has caused residents and we wish to reassure them we are working as hard as we can to clear the situation.

“It has to be understood that the inclement weather conditions experienced over a number of days – and the uncertainty about future conditions – caused this unprecedented situation.

“All we can do is apologise for the inconvenience caused and assure residents we are working on their behalf to deal with the situation.”
