Renewables Day kicks off Flintshire Business Week 2011

‘Going green is good for business’ – that’s one of the key messages of Renewables Day, which kicks off this year’s Flintshire Business Week on Tuesday October 11.

Flintshire Business Week 2011 includes themed days focusing on a broad spectrum of business related topics, including the supply chain, SME day, manufacturing excellence and directors’ day.

Renewables Day is kindly hosted by UPM Shotton on October 11, and will take place there from 9am until 3.30pm. The day will feature everything to do with the environment and sustainability, and includes talks on a wide variety of environmental topics, from an impressive selection of experts: Jim O’Toole, Managing Director of the Port of Mostyn; Gerry Jewson from West Coast Energy; Duncan McCombie from the Energy Saving Trust; Kevin Betts from Carbon Save Solutions; and David Burton from Strateco Ltd. The day will also feature a tour of UPM Shotton’s brand new, multimillion pound recycling facility.

Opening Renewables Day, and Flintshire Business Week itself, will be Councillor Matt Wright, Executive Member for Regeneration and Tourism, and Councillor Nancy Matthews, Flintshire County Council’s Executive Member for Waste.

Councillor Wright said:

“I’m thoroughly looking forward to opening this year’s Flintshire Business Week. The Week forms a key part of our ethos in the Council to make Flintshire ‘Open for Business’. Our flagship business event goes from strength to strength every year, and this year’s is bigger and better than ever. I’d urge companies to make the most of the opportunities the Week provides, particularly in terms of networking. As our recent successful bid for an Enterprise Zone proves – working together makes things happen!”

Speaking about Renewables Day, Councillor Matthews said:

“The opportunity to spend a day at the site of UPM Shotton is always a treat. We all conscientiously fill the recycling bags and boxes at home but we are not always aware of the destination of those items. Here on our doorstep in Shotton is the perfect example of Closed Loop Recycling; the used product goes in, it’s treated, and out comes new newsprint. We are delighted to have this forward looking business in Flintshire.”
