Residents get Smart Water

Older people throughout the counties of Conwy and Denbighshire are getting a helping hand in protecting their property.

Neighbourhood Policing Teams in the two counties have been issuing Smartwater kits to residents in an effort to reduce the fear of crime and deter would-be thieves. The kits have been funded by the Conwy and Denbighshire Community Safety Partnership

Smartwater is used to mark valuables in the home and is a non-toxic combination of chemicals manufactured in a laboratory and is as unique as DNA. A small application of the solution is enough to permanently mark items which can include electrical equipment, jewellery, pottery, garden equipment and bicycles etc.

To date, kits have been issued in people in Llandudno, Llansannan and Rhyl.

Sgt Mel Brace, Community Safety Partnership, said “The Community Safety Partnership are delighted to be able to offer the Smartwater kits to vulnerable people within our communities. We have spent a week issuing the forensic coding systems at various places within Conwy and Denbighshire as part of our ongoing commitment to reduce the fear of crime.”

The aim of the visit was to highlight to local residents the importance of security in and out of their homes. Each older resident received a smartwater pack.
