Local Police have joined forces with a local resident to create one of the largest Neighbourhood Watch schemes on Anglesey.
Almost 300 houses have registered for the scheme in the Valley area of the island thanks to Mrs Jenny Woodhall.
Mrs Woodhall wrote to PCSO Adrian Williams telling him why she wanted to set something up for the community in her area.
In the letter Mrs Woodall said: “I was already Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator for 25 houses, but there was no one looking after any other roads nearby so with the support of PCSO Adrian Williams I was able to contact all the houses on and leading from the top of the Gorad Road in Valley, incorporating the Newlands Park, Penrodyn and Glanraeth Estates and I have been delighted that we now have 275 households supporting the scheme.
“Several people in key locations have agreed to co-operate in a phone ring-round link so that any potential problems can be monitored once notified to us, which would be a great help to the police should their presence be required.
“Someone in each road has kindly agreed to support us by delivering information to those in their road and we will be passing on security tips on a regular basis as well as advice for any particular precautions necessary should the need arise
The police cannot be everywhere at once but householders are and by being part of NW and by knowing how, when and who to contact, we can ensure that the police have the best information with which to support us, and are there when we need them, “she said.
PCSO Williams said: “I for one am very grateful to Mrs Woodall for her efforts and wish more people would make the effort to help with similar schemes.
“All the work was done by Mrs Woodall and I was happy to assist with providing printing, supplying window stickers and street signs through PCSO Norman Hughes and working with the Anglesey Council’s Safer Communities department,” he said.
Anyone wishing to start a scheme in their neighbourhood should contact their local PCSO for advice. Contact numbers can be found on the North Wales Police website.
