Rhondda AM welcomes new Powers for School Discipline

Leighton Andrews Welsh Assembly Member for the Rhondda has welcomed new and clear powers which clarifies for teachers their roles when it comes to exclusions and discipline.

Mr Andrews said “ These new powers will give a clear focus to teachers when it comes to the discipline of pupils if they are misbehaving. It also ensures that pupils are protected and treated fairly but are aware of what is acceptable behaviour in and out of the class room. It also means that teachers in turn are clear as to what powers are available to them to disciple pupils and how they might apply them when needed.

Mr Andrews added “Of course the main emphasis, does however, remain that schools should encouraged a positive environment for learning and good behaviour”.

These news powers are implemented on the same day as new powers for schools to search pupils for weapons, which further adds to the support that teachers need support and teach pupils in a safe environment.
