Rhostyllen team crack down on burglary

The Community Policing team in Rhostyllen have stepped up measures to reduce burglary.

PCSO Sally Mulvaney and colleagues have been conducting high visbility patrols in identified areas and advising residents about how to keep their property safe.

Leaflets have been dropped through letterboxes to remind home owners to take a few simple steps to protect their property and new schemes, such as the smart water, for marking property are also being introduced to the area.

Advice includes

  • Home or away, keep doors locked
  • Check the identity of all callers- if in doubt keep them out
  • Postcode property using a UV marker pen
  • Consider fitting window locks, especially on ground floor windows
  • Consider fitting a door viewer and a door chain /bar
  • Lock garages and sheds
  • Consider fitting a burglar alarm certified by BS EN 50131
  • Consider fitting good quality deadlocks certified to BS 3621to all exterior doors
  • Make sure your house keys, and door keys are kept in a secure place, not visible through the letterbox
  • Activate vehicle immobilizers
  • Encourage neighbours to report any suspicious activity

PCSO Sally Mulvaney said: “Its common sense advice which we would encourage residents to get in the habit of using it.

“Taking a few seconds to ensure your property is safe can mean the difference between outsmarting an opportunistic thief or giving them an easy ride.”
