After 15 months of tireless fundraising, The Mumbles volunteer lifeboats crew and ladies guild have smashed the half way target for their £150,000 appeal. 2010 has been a busy year for the RNLI volunteers, and as they prepare for 2011 the volunteer lifeboat crew and fundraisers would like to wish the local community and the people of Swansea a Merry Christmas on behalf of all of the team.
Since the ‘Money for Mumbles’ appeal was launched by the late Steve Woods in August 2009, the RNLI volunteers have been busy holding various fundraising events to help fund a new Tamar class lifeboat to save lives at sea around the Swansea coast. By December 2010 the RNLI fundraisers, station crew and supporters had raised £126,000 for the ‘Money for Mumbles Appeal’ but there’s still a long way to go.
Bev Rosser-Smith, RNLI Community Fundraising Manager thanked the public for their support during 2010:
‘We would like to thank all who have helped the Mumbles lifeboat crew and ladies guild raise £126,000 towards the ‘Money for Mumbles’ appeal, but there’s still a long way to go before the volunteer crew can receive their new Tamar class lifeboat.’
Bev continues:
‘Even though Christmas is a time for family and friends, the volunteer lifeboat crew will be ready to leave the festivities to save lives at sea this Christmas. Please think of the volunteer lifeboat crew this Christmas and donate towards the Money for Mumbles appeal.’
The £150,000 appeal will help purchase a new £2.7 million Tamar class lifeboat for the Mumbles lifeboat crew – the most advanced vessel operated by the RNLI. The RNLI is a charity and depends on public support and donations to continue its lifesaving service.
