Road Safety Day at Amlwch

Road Safety DayEmergency Services in North Wales joined forces on Monday (30th November) to hold a Road Safety Awareness Day at an Anglesey secondary school.

The event, which was organised by PCSO Iona Beckmann from the Anglesey Neighbourhood Policing Team and Terfel Jones from the Road Casualty Reduction Partnership, was held at Ysgol Syr Thomas Jones in Amlwch.

Sixth form pupils attended the day which included presentations and exhibitions from North Wales Police, the Welsh Ambulance Service, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Anglesey County Council and the Wales Road Casualty Reduction Partnership.

A demonstration regarding the importance of wearing seatbelts was given and personal attack alarms were handed out to the pupils. Even NW01 – the North Wales Police helicopter landed on the school yard – much to the delight of the pupils and surrounding community.

PCSO Iona Beckmann said: “This was a great opportunity to hold a road safety awareness day at the school. We had a fantastic response from all the pupils and the feedback from the teachers has been very positive.

“The helicopter was very well received – even parents who live nearby called over to meet the helicopter crew with their youngsters and the rest of the school pupils came out during their lunch break to see the aircraft up close.

She added: “Young people are one of the most vulnerable groups of drivers and we hope the day encouraged the pupils to stay safe on the roads.”
