Roadshow offers pupils lessons in healthy living

Pupils at primary schools across the Caerphilly county borough are learning important lessons about healthy living and sustainability thanks to a special touring roadshow.

Caerphilly County Borough Council is promoting the new educational roadshow featuring S4C’s ‘Gregory Brothers’. The show will visit over 70 primary schools across the area giving thousands of local children the opportunity to enjoy the fun.

The roadshow is helping to raise awareness of key issues such as the importance of food hygiene, healthy eating, taking pride in the environment and recycling.

Cllr Lyn Ackerman, Cabinet Member for Public Services and Housing said, “I am delighted that local youngsters will have the opportunity to learn more about the environment in such a fun and educational way”.

She continued, “The Gregory Brothers are proven entertainers and are very effective at getting important messages across about the environment and healthier living. I am sure their roadshows and the messages contained within them will make a positive impact not only in schools, but at home too”.

The 45-minute show is full of fun and games, as well as singing and dancing and will be performed in all of the county borough’s primary schools over the next few months.

A free CD featuring all the songs from the show will also be given to the schools to help enable them to use it as an additional educational resource.

Cllr Ackerman continued, “Raising awareness of these important issues among the younger generation through education and entertainment will undoubtedly go a long way to ensuring a greener and healthier future for all our residents”.

The educational roadshow programme is being supported by the Welsh Assembly Government’s Local Environmental Quality Fund. For more information contact 01495 235272.
