Roadworks at Ynysygwas

Works to improve traffic management at the top of Ynysygwas Hill in Cwmavon are underway.

The works totalling £70,000 will include installing two sets of traffic lights on the top road to control traffic in both directions.  This will also allow controlled access to Ynysygwas and Ynysygwas Hill.

It will also include moving the bus stops from the top of the hill to further down the road closer to the Ynyslee flats.  There will also be parking restrictions set out along the junction and down Ynysygwas Hill to make sure there are no obstructions to traffic.

After a number of accidents reported on the road the work is now being done as part of the council’s accident reduction programme.

Neath Port Talbot Council’s Streetcare Services are carrying out the work which is expected to be completed by the end of March.

Ali Thomas, Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council, said, “I would ask motorists to be patient whilst this work is being done as it will inevitably cause some delay, but once finished it will create a much needed safer environment for drivers and pedestrians.”
