Runners needed to help save a life at sea

The RNLI is asking people to pull on their trainers and join their running team at this year’s Anglesey Running Festival. The money raised will help raise vital funds for the RNLI volunteer crews during the busy holiday season and into the winter months for the North Wales coastline.

Recruits are asked to take part in one of the challenging runs on offer in aid of the RNLI and help raise vital funds four our lifesaving services. The RNLI relies on funds from all over the country to ensure it can continue to save lives at sea.

It costs on average £378,000 every day to run the lifesaving organisation. As an independent charity we are totally reliant upon volunteers and donations, and are separate from HM Coastguard that is a government agency.

In 2009 our lifeboats were launched 9,223 times at an average cost of over £5,000 each time.

Charlotte Bird, Events Manager for Wales and the West, urges people to sign up for the event:

’It is a fantastic opportunity for people who visit the coast each year or live nearby to give a little back and do their bit towards helping to save a life at sea.’

Charlotte continues:

‘We only have a handful of places remaining to join team RNLI for the festival. We are aiming to have 30 runners raising over £3000 over the different races to help train and equip our crews for the winter ahead. So why not challenge yourself and help a good cause at the same time, in return we can offer both training and fundraising support in the run up to the race along with on the day support.’
