In response to a request by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, S4C has confirmed that a document outlining possible cuts to the Channel’s budget has been sent to the Secretary of State.
The document deals with 3 specific issues, the impact of making a 10% saving next year, and the impact of a 25% or 40% reduction between 2011 – 2014.
However, the S4C Authority has made it clear that the document is a technical response to a specific request by the Department. The S4C Authority acts within the relevant statutory framework regarding discharging its duties. This includes the Authority’s duty towards its audience and to defend the Channel and Welsh Language broadcasting.
S4C will make the contents of the report to DCMS public in due course.
