S4C launches brand new iPhone app

S4C is extending its television and online output with the launch of a free downloadable iPhone app, S4C Clic.

The new app, which is launched today (Tuesday 10 May), allows viewers to access the S4C on demand service, Clic, to view the Channel’s programmes on demand for up to 35 days after transmission.

S4C Clic is a bilingual app which also offers live streaming of the television content and two-day programme listings on iPhones.

An iPad and iPod Touch version of the app is currently being developed and will be released in due course.

The number of viewing sessions of S4C’s online on demand service, Clic, has seen an increase of 98% reaching over half a million visits in the first four months of 2011, compared to the same period in 2010.

Innovative and interactive apps for S4C’s nursery service Cyw and Stwnsh – designed for young people between 7 and 13 years – are already available to download for free on iPhone mobile devices. The Cyw app includes stories, songs and games from the service’s magical and colourful world, whilst Stwnsh frequently offers new games from the website.

S4C’s Director of Broadcast and Distribution, Arshad Rasul, says “Our on line on-demand service Clic is extremely popular and making it available via an iPhone app will further extend its appeal. It underlines once again S4C’s commitment to providing the best possible services for its audience. ”
