Safety lesson for Beddau schoolchildren

Schoolchildren have not only been learning about safety on building sites – they are helping to educate others also.

Newydd Housing Association recently worked with pupils from Gwaunmeisgyn Primary School in Beddau to raise awareness about safety on building sites.

The lesson was particularly important as Colwest Ltd is currently building 16 news homes in Forest Road, close to the school, on behalf of Newydd Housing Association.

It saw special guest Ivor Goodsite meet with the children to demonstrate the safety equipment used on building sites and raise awareness of health and safety in such areas.

As well as enjoying the lesson and doing really well answering questions, the young people have also volunteered to make posters about site safety that will be displayed around the area.

All those who took part received a goodie bag and contractors Colwest Ltd donated a flag pole to the school that will be used to proudly display its eco flag.

Colwest Ltd is currently building homes on the site of the former Miners Arms pubs and work is set to be completed in the autumn, when the properties will then be advertised for rental.

The construction of the properties is supported by the Welsh Assembly Government and all will meet set standards in terms of their sustainability and also to ensure they are lifetime homes and also RNIB levels.
