Davies: Boundary review will split community

Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies says proposals to split Uzmaston under a boundary review would split the community.

The review has proposed that five streets in the community of Uzmaston and Boulston are incorporated into Haverfordwest Town Council.

But many local residents are objecting to the plans and want their streets to stay part of Uzmaston and Boulston Community Council.  They are now being backed by their Assembly Member.

“I strongly feel that the proposal to transfer these areas will break the strong community bonds that currently exist,” said Mr Davies.

“We need to encourage civic pride as much as possible and it’s clear that the residents of these streets feel that they belong in Uzmaston and Boulston, not in Haverfordwest.”

Community leaders are now calling for a referendum to take place before the changes occur and have held a public meeting to protest at the plans.

Mr Davies has also written to the Democracy Team of the Local Government Policy Division at the Welsh Assembly to object to the plans.

“I have received representations from a number of residents in the area who are very concerned that the strong community links that bond the above streets to that of Uzmaston will be broken,” he wrote.
