Sale couple are chosen as North Wales holiday ambassadors

A couple from Sale have been invited to become special travel ambassadors for the North Wales coastal resort which they visit more than 30 times a year.

Michael and Marlena Engelmann have been chosen by the Coastal Resorts East campaign to sing the praises of the holiday attractions of Rhyl and Prestatyn.

The couple, who have owned a static caravan on a five-star, family run park close to Prestatyn for six years, have been named as special travel ambassadors and are available to advise on where to stay and what to see and do in this corner of North Wales.

They will join a select band, Ambassadors North Wales, www.ambassadorsnorthwales.co.uk ready, willing and able to offer invaluable information on where to go and what to do in one of the most beautiful and interesting parts of the country.

The couple, who have five children and six grandchildren, said they never tire of visiting the area and always look forward to being in their second home at Tree Tops Caravan Park in Gwespyr which is set in beautiful, wooded countryside and overlooks the sea.

Even the recent cold snap was not enough to put them off from spending a long weekend at a snow covered Tree Tops.

Michael, 70, a health and safety and HR consultant, said: “We cannot wait sometimes for a Thursday or Friday to come and we just jump in the car and within an hour and a half we are in a different world.

“I suppose it is a natural hunting ground for us being so close by and we love the scenery and all the little villages.

“The area itself has a huge amount going for it, in terms of diversity, there is always so much going on. Even after six years, we are still discovering new places to visit!

“We have just found a nature park behind the Sainsbury’s in Rhyl which we never knew was there which was lovely to have a wander round.”

Their caravan base is also in the perfect location from where to explore the rest of north Wales and the couple have travelled all over to Llangollen, Llandudno, the Llyn Pennisula, Anglesey and Snowdonia.

Michael, who is originally from Pontypridd in south Wales, said: “It is such a good central point from where to travel to other places.

“Quite often, we will pack a few sandwiches, get in the car and just take off for the day and we are never disappointed with what we find.”

The couple regularly visit the Welsh Mountain Zoo in Colwyn Bay, the Welsh Heritage Park in Mostyn, Bodnant Gardens in the Conwy Valley and make the most of the beautiful beaches dotted along the north Wales coast line but Michael said it would be impossible to single out a favourite spot.

However they are very taken with their luxury caravan which is one of the major attractions for them to the area.

Michael said: “It is set in the most beautiful countryside and even now, with all the snow, it just looks lovely.”

He recalled his first meeting with the park’s owners, Maureen and Harry Walker, when they were looking to move from another caravan site.

Michael said: “I remember when we first went there and the place was just so beautiful and we met with Maureen and Harry and we found them to be so understanding and helpful.

“We went there at 10am in the morning and by 3pm the same afternoon, we had bought the caravan.

“They even lent us a van and a man to move our stuff from our old caravan to our new one and within a weekend we were fully installed!”
