Sandrea’s Top of the Class

A Pembrokeshire school crossing patrol officer has been presented with a major road safety award.

Sandrea Howells has been patrolling the road outside Holy Name Primary School in Fishguard for 28 years!

At a recent conference in Caernarvon Sandrea was presented with a Chevron-sponsored Road Safety Wales Award in recognition of her long service.

The grandmother from Goodwick was nominated for the award by Pembrokeshire County Council’s Road Safety Unit and by Holy Name pupils .

As well as helping pupils cross the road, Sandrea also promotes her road safety role in the class room and in the wider community.

Councillor Huw George, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said generations of children attending Holy Name had benefited from Sandrea’s reassuring presence outside the school.

“Our Lollypop men and women are often taken for granted yet their play a key role in keeping our children safe going to and from school” he said.

“Sandrea is regarded as a highly valued member of staff by the school and by the Council. She thoroughly deserves her award.”
