Schoolboy Tom Fitzgerald, aged 10, of Penarth switched on the town’s Christmas lights after winning a competition run by Real Radio and Rhondda Cynon Taf Events team, who organised the free festivities.

Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Mayor, Cllr Robert Smith, said: “It was wonderful to see so many people of all ages turn out on a cold and rainy night to enjoy the festivities.

“Many thanks to Tom for travelling up from Penarth to switch on the Christmas lights.”
