Police in Penrhyndeudraeth are calling on the public to be on their guard of a telephone scam that is targeting people in the area.
An individual, claiming to be a technician for Microsoft, is phoning householders stating that there is a problem with their computer.
The caller urges the householder to log on to their computer and to follow his instructions in a bid to get rid of a virus. It is believed that by following the person’s instructions it disables any security software the householder may have on their computer.
Once this is done, the caller then asks the householder for credit cards details to purchase new software.
Police are warning individuals that Microsoft employees do not telephone their customers and not to fall victim to this scam but to report it.
North Wales Police can be contacted on 101 or 0845 6071001 (Welsh language line) or 0845 6071002 (English language line).
