Scheme for young drivers in Meirionnydd

Young drivers in Meirionnydd will soon be able improve their driving skills thanks to a joint initiative by North Wales Police, Gwynedd County Council and North Wales Fire and Rescue.

Community Beat Manager, PC Dewi Wynne said that through NWP Balance your Bobbies scheme, it was identified that the main concern for people in Meirionnydd was dangerous driving.

He said: “Over 38% of people living in Meirionnydd said that this was their biggest worry so we have taken this on board and as part of the work to tackle this concern a Pass Plus Cymru scheme, which helps young drivers who have just passed their test, is to be run in Barmouth next month.”

He explained that Pass Plus was a specially enhanced course which young drivers up the age of 25 years can take to help them build on their driving skills, knowledge and hazard awareness.

The course also helps drivers to reduce their risk of being involved in a crash and they could also qualify for a substantial discount with many insurance companies.

The course, which is being run at Barmouth Fire Station on Monday November 15, is subsidized by the Welsh Assembly and costs only £20.
