Flintshire schools have been meeting the challenge of the severe weather since the start of term. Most schools moved quickly to reopen following severe snow falls and frosts. One school had to close for a week due to heating problems.
Parents, school staff, contractors and local authority staff have all been involved in making sure schools have been able to open. Parents and local transport companies have managed through difficult conditions to transport children safely. Flintshire secondary schools, in particular, have made sure they have been open for all young people due to take public exams last week.
Councillor Nigel Steele-Mortimer, executive member for Education and Lifelong Learning said: “The efforts of Flintshire children, parents and schools to minimise disruption were first rate. Parents and local business can be confident that schools will make sure that closure is the last resort and that schools will re-open as soon as it is safe to do so.”
