Over 60 youngsters competed in the Pembrokeshire Schools Disability Swimming Gala last week.
Held at Fishguard Leisure Centre on Wednesday, the event was organised by the Federation of Disability Sport Wales (FDSW) along with Sport Pembrokeshire – Pembrokeshire County Council’s sports development arm – and sponsored by Stena Line.
The youngsters competed in 29 races in front of an audience of parents, teachers and fellow pupils.
Huw Griffiths, Swim Wales’ Disability Officer was also present to spot talented athletes, who will be invited to compete at a regional gala at Swansea in May.
All competitors were presented with medals by Fishguard and Goodwick town Mayor Councillor Gwilym Price and County Councillor Sian James, while certificates were also presented to year 10 GSCE Physical education pupils from Ysgol Bro Gwaun for their time keeping.
Angela Miles Pembrokeshire Disability Sport Officer said she was delighted at the standard of swimming on display.
“We have a County-wide disability swimming club, Pembrokeshire Puffins, and we hope that some of the youngsters who took part may now be inspired to further develop their swimming prowess and join the club,” she said.
