Sean plumbs the heights

A Coleg Gwent plumbing student is celebrating being named one of the best trainee plumbers in the UK.

18-year-old Sean Quinn, from Glascoed, took the runner’s up title in the national final of HIP! UK Apprentice Plumber of the Year 2010 competition at Newbury Race Course last month.

Sean was the Welsh finalist, pitting his wits against five trainees from England, Scotland and Northern Ireland as they spent two days competing in a series of set tasks.

“I am so happy to win second place – it’s great to know that I’m one of the best trainee plumbers in the UK – it’s a real confidence boost,” Sean said.

Sean is doing his NVQ Level Two at the college as part of his apprenticeship at A J Quinn Building Contractors of Pontypool.  The company is owned by his dad, who is really supportive of Sean’s career and of Coleg Gwent.

Sean received a cut-glass trophy, a top of the range Milwaukee 4-piece drill set worth over £250 and brand new Blaklader clothing, among his prizes.
