It was two years in the making, and Denbighshire’s Heather and Hillforts team will have a second screening of a special DVD at Clwyd Theatr Cymru, Mold on Tuesday, September 21.
Set against the stunning backdrop of the heather and hillforts which span the beautiful Vale of Clwyd Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Llantysilio Mountains, the DVD charts the ancient history of the landscape, from the ice age that sculpted the hills through to the present day and the ongoing work to preserve this internationally important area for future generations.
The film features spectacular aerial photography, showcasing the rolling hills covered in purple heather, down through green valley floors. It also includes contributions from local people about their views about the landscape of the area.
The Heather and Hillforts Scheme is a Heritage Lottery Funded Partnership Project with Denbighshire and Flintshire County Councils and was created to conserve and maintain and increase understanding of the heritage of the hillforts and heather moorland of the Clwydian Range and Llantysilio Mountains.
The DVD will also be used to promote tourism in the area and will be screened on a loop at Tourism Information Centres. Visitors to Loggerheads Country Park, near Mold will also be able to enjoy the remarkable aerial footage of the hills in the future.
Denbighshire’s Heather and Hillforts Officer, Helen Mrowiec, said: “We are delighted with the film, which will be a valuable tool in both educating visitors and the local community about the international importance of the Clwydian Range AONB and the hillforts along the Llantysilio Mountains, as well as promote the area as a tourism destination. We are so fortunate to have such fantastic heritage on our doorstep.”
