See Newport’s artistic dragons in their den

Newport’s SuperDragons den, part of Wales’s largest art event, was officially opened this afternoon by the Mayor Councillor Glyn Jarvis.

The Mayor was joined by the leader of the council, Councillor Matthew Evans and Newport Gwent Dragons rugby players Ashley Smith and Lewis Evans.

In the newly-created artists’ quarter on Upper Dock Street, den will be the studio for those artists chosen to decorate the city’s 50 SuperDragons in front of anyone who fancies popping in for a look.

The SuperDragons Den is part of the quarter which has transformed empty shops along Upper Dock Street into art spaces with help from funding from the Arts Council for Wales.

These creative spaces and workshops and will host amateur and professional art exhibitions, a photo exhibition and workshops for Newport residents interested in art. The initiative will run until October 31 and the council hopes the area will become a focal point for anyone interested in the arts in Newport.
