See your future ay Cardiff Uni

Cardiff University is hosting Wales’ largest Open Day giving visitors the chance to discover what life is like at a world-leading university, to explore elegant campuses and state-of-the-art facilities and to absorb the atmosphere in one of Europe’s youngest capitals.

On Wednesday 21 April 2010, thousands of potential applicants from across the country will descend on the University to experience first-hand the opportunities and amenities they will encounter as undergraduate students.

Visitors will be able to find out about the research-led teaching they can expect to face as students, and how they can be part of a cutting-edge academic culture that brings benefits locally, nationally and globally and addresses some of the most important issues in the modern world.

Introductory talks will cover everything from the science behind MP3’s to the psychology of climate change. Clinical skills demonstrations will provide a snapshot of life as a medic, whilst other events explore culture and identity; newspapers, TV and war; community pharmacy; the life of the Universe; gossiping mobiles: Twitter without the internet; information security: snooping private data from a WiFi network; and the inner workings of a psychopath’s mind.

During the event, visitors will also be able to look around the Student’s Union – one of the most successful in Britain – where an exhibition will showcase the sport clubs, concerts, entertainment events and support services available to them as Cardiff students. Tours of the extensive sports facilities and a selection of the halls of residence also take place throughout the day.

David Roylance, Head of Undergraduate Recruitment said: “Open Day at Cardiff University is the largest such event in Wales and will provide thousands of students with the opportunity to come and see university life as it really is. We offer excellent academic standards, modern facilities and this allied with being located at the heart of a vibrant, cosmopolitan capital city is a very attractive proposition for students considering their Higher Education options.”
