Services for Young People Shortlisted for Top Award

It’s a great time to be a young person in Rhondda Cynon Taf as Services for Young People are about to potentially scoop yet another national award for their Extended School Activities programme.

Services for Young People’s community focussed schools programme including excellence Wales award winning e3+, youth services, cluster workers and school holiday programmes were shortlisted for the Extended School Award along side 2 special young people from Rhondda Cynon Taf in the national Children and Young People Now Awards 2010.

The 2 young people are Darian Rees-Lewis and Lewis Jevons who were nominated for the Young Person’s Achievement Award because of the amazing work they carry out across the County Borough, including their role in the Youth Inspectors team. Both young people recently received awards in Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Young Achievement Awards and also compered the night of behalf of the young people in the County Borough.

Councillor Eudine Hanagan, Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning said: “I am so proud of the young people in Rhondda Cynon Taf and our very own awards ceremony last week showcased the talents we have in the County Borough. I would like to wish Darian and Lewis the best of luck, but I already know that whatever happens they are destined for great things.

The services we are now offering for young people are second to none and it is because of these, young people are shining. It is thanks to the opportunities that are now being created because of programmes like e3+ that young people are excelling.”

The Children and Young People Now Awards 2010 take place in Royal Horticultural Halls, London on 18th November 2010 and the winners will be announced during the ceremony. For further information on these awards visit http://www.cypnawards.com/.
