Shadow Rural Affairs Minister Russell George AM joined Clwyd West AM Darren Millar on Friday on a visit to Ruthin’s Glasdir estate to see progress on the construction of the new flood defence improvements.

A £300,000 scheme to improve the flood defences on the estate got underway at the beginning of last month and work is expected to be finished by the end of the summer.

Both Darren and Russell were impressed by the progress to date.

Darren said:

“It was good to see that work is well underway and on schedule. The contractors are doing a fantastic job.

“The residents of Glasdir have waited a long time for these improvements and it is reassuring for them to know that by the end of the summer their homes will be better protected and they can go into the winter months confident that whatever weather is thrown at them they won’t have to face the heartbreak of flooding again.”

Shadow Minister for Rural Affairs Russell George AM added:

“I am really pleased that this work is now underway and that the residents of the Glasdir Estate are getting the flood defences they deserve. They have endured a horrific 18 months, but with improved defences in place they can look to the future with confidence that they won’t have to go through it again.”

The cost of the work is being shared between Denbighshire County Council, the site developer (Taylor Wimpey) and the Welsh Government.
