Mature student Sarah Davies, 31, who’s in her second year at Glyndwr University, will be performing her own songs at Eagles Meadow shopping centre in Wrexham.

She’ll also be joining fellow students from the Television, Theatre and Performance course for a flashmob when they’ll be unveiling their version of the Time Warp dance from the Rocky Horror Show.

Along with Capital FM DJ Ben Sheppard, they will be part of the entertainment at the annual Student Takeover event at Eagles Meadow between 5pm and 8pm next Thursday (October 13).

Many stores will feature special offers to give a helping hand to hard-up youngsters with plenty of discounts and offers available.

Sarah, who has performed in shows at the university as well as performing her own jazz, blues, pop and rock songs in clubs and bars and tackling the odd busking session, says she intends to try and raise a bucketful of cash for the Alzheimer’s Society on the night.

Fun-loving Sarah, from Denbigh, said: “I’m really looking forward to performing at Eagles Meadow.

“I’ll raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society because it’s such a good cause – and hopefully I’ll have time to pick up a few bargains too.”

Fellow student, Mark Ryan Hughes, 21, who also hails from Denbigh, said: “Performing a flash dance gives us a chance to let people know about our course and that we are studying here in Wrexham.

“Hopefully we can let people know about what we do as students and the sort of performances we do such as our Christmas show.”

Eagles Meadow Operation Manager Stuart Bellis, says the Student Takeover is annual event that’s proving increasingly popular.

He said: “The new intake of students have just arrived in Wrexham and following Freshers’ Week we want to welcome students, many who come from different regions of the country, to Eagles Meadow.

“It can be difficult moving to a new town and not knowing what to expect or where to shop or spend leisure time. This is our way of welcoming students and showing them what an amazing place Wrexham is.

“We are pleased Ben Sheppard and Capital Radio team are joining us for the evening. It promises to be lots of fun as well as the chance to bag some exclusive discounts from participating stores.

“It’s all about having welcoming new students to the town and showing them what a fun and above all safe and welcoming place Wrexham is. Don’t forget your student card!”

Jade Hawksworth, who is in charge of marketing at Eagles Meadow, said: “The Student Takeover means students don’t have to travel to find discounts and while they do tend to be fashion-conscious, especially Wrexham, they don’t usually have big budgets.

“There is a good range of shops at Eagles Meadow and they’re offering some excellent discounts on what should be a really fun night for the many students in Wrexham.

“It’s a really good way to show them that Eagles Meadow is a place where they can shop and that we have something for everyone and it should make for a really lively evening.”
