Sizzling Fashion Sales at Wrexham Shopping Centre

The heatwave is causing a summer fashions boom at a shopping centre.

EEagles Meadow in Wrexham has more of a Mediterranean feel thanks to the current heat wave according to a restaurant assistant manager.

According to Torrey Winter, the manager of the Debenhams store on Eagles Meadow, sales of summer wear have gone through the roof.

She said: “It’s been very busy across the board with women’s, men’s and children’s wear all going exceptionally well.

“We do have our new autumn range in store but it seems our customers want to enjoy the sun as long as possible and the last week has all been about summer wear. The high sales figures for bikinis and sun dresses are particularly pleasing.”

She added: “The hot weather has definitely made a big difference and has been a real boost to our sales figures. It’s also been nice seeing people with smiles on their faces and enjoying the weather.”

Nicola Harrington, an assistant manager at the Eagles meadow Boots store says the sales of sun block and after sun creams had rocketed.

She said: “We are constantly filling the shelves with sun cream and other products such as after sun creams. But it’s so important to ensure people, particularly children, use sun block and keep hydrated in hot weather.

“The damage to skin that can occur from exposure to strong sun has to be taken seriously and young and older people are particularly at risk.

Lorna Cooper the assistant manager of Frankie & Benny’s says the summer sun has been a welcome start to the school holidays.

She said: “Eagles Meadow really has had more of a Mediterranean look about it this week. And that is reflected in the meals people are ordering. We are selling far more salads than normal while pitta breads and wraps, particularly at lunch time, are proving very popular.

“It’s lovely seeing people dressed in summer clothes and having a good time. It certainly beats the rain!”

Eagles Meadow centre manager Kevin Critchley says the shopping centre has been very busy with people enjoying the unusually hot weather.

He said: “The sun coming out has certainly put a smile on people faces; there is no doubt about that. And it certainly looks like the hot weather has had a positive effect on business although I haven’t seen the figures as yet but it does seem that footfall is up.

“It seems people are buying lots of summer clothes and tee-shirts in particular. It does appear that the weather has had a positive effect on trade and people are enjoying coming out and shopping in what is a very safe environment.”

“It’s also important people use the right sun block for their needs. People with sensitive or fair skin may need a much higher factor than others. I would recommend customers ask advice about products if they are unsure.”
