Skewen youngsters get help from Youth Trust

The South Wales Police Youth Trust has delivered a helping hand to the team of volunteers at the Caewathan Youth Centre and the many hundreds of young people who come along each week.

The centre was awarded a grant from the Youth Trust which has been used to build a youth shelter. And the latest attraction at the centre is proving to be very popular with the local youngsters, as a place to meet up, make friends, and have lots of fun.

Olivia Evans (aged 11) said “We like our new shelter a lot, and we all give it a very big ten out of ten.”

Jade Wilcox (aged 13) said “I’ve been coming to the centre for four years and it just keeps getting better.”

Retired South Wales Police Officer and centre volunteer Ken Thomas said “We would all like to thank the Youth Trust for their very kind support, and already it has made a massive difference to the community. The centre has become a real hub of the community and is a focal point for young people.”

The initial funding bid got the backing of Chief Inspector Andy Kingdom who said “Young people are our future and together we need to do as much as possible to support them. The youth centre is helping to get kids off the street and is providing a wide range of activities.”
