A strong girls Blues Under 18s side took on the Ospreys and secured an impressive 22-5 victory at Abercynon in the first match of the season.
A large Ospreys pack failed to fire in the opening half and proved no match for the Blues scrumaging. A new look Blues took advantage of early possession and were quick to make their mark, with strong forward play, and fast ball from the backs.
The first half saw three tries coming from a fast and talented full back Chloe Smith – all within a 20 minute period, with outside half Brogan Jones converting.
The Ospreys settled in the second spell to get back into the game. Captain Carys Phillips started to lead by example with some very direct running which enabled the Ospreys to go forward and create opportunities. Rosie Fletcher made a big impact off the bench and started to ask questions of the Blues defence. Eventually, with a lot of support, centre Jess Smith crossed the line for the Ospreys.
The Blues made sure of the victory when replacement Dela Anderson scored late on.
