Ystradgynlais Assault: Female Attacked

Dyfed-Powys Police is investigating the attack on a 22-year old woman, which took place in Upper Cwmtwrch between 5:00am and 7:00am on Monday 12 October 2009.

The incident, which we believe is sexually motivated, occurred while the woman was walking along the A4068 in Upper Cwmtwrch, near the river bridge when she was attacked and assaulted by a male.

The woman was pushed to the ground but resisted the assault and the offender made off on foot towards Ystradgynlais town centre.

He is described as wearing dark clothing, in his 20s and of slim build.

T/Detective Chief Inspector Shane Williams said: “Our thoughts are with the victim who is considerably traumatised by this assault and demonstrated significant courage in repelling the attacker. I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time who saw anything suspicious to contact police immediately.

“In addition, I would like to reassurance the local community that these offences are extremely rare and Dyed-Powys remains one of the safest places to live in England and Wales.”

Police are also appealing for witnesses who travelled along the road on that morning, or use the route as part of their regular morning commute, to come forward and report any suspicious activity.

If members of the public saw any suspicious activity, or have information regarding this incident please call Dyfed-Powys Police on 101, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously, on 0800 555 111
