The Social Care Partnership in North Wales is celebrating today after scooping a prestigious social care award.
The Social Care Partnership is made up of representatives from all six North Wales Councils, Jobcentre Plus and Careers Wales and is co-ordinated by Clare Hughes, based in Denbighshire.
The winning project aimed to raise the profile of social care as a fulfilling career for young people and won in the Career of Choice category at the Social Care Accolades, which were held in Cardiff City Hall.
Enthusiastic practitioners were trained as ambassadors to share their experiences of social care as a rewarding career with students in schools and colleges.
The ambassadors also visited JobCentre Plus organisations to educate advisors about careers in social care and promote the opportunities available in this sector.
During the period of the project, the ambassadors spoke to more than 310 students, over a 100 people at recruitment events, 120 JobCentre Plus advisors and customers, and over 65 Careers Wales staff.
Judges praised the project for promoting a positive image of social care and the work will now be shared with other organisations in learning workshops helping to raise standards in the sector across Wales.
Clare Hughes from the Social Care Partnership said: “I’m thrilled the project has been acknowledged. Without the fantastic Care Ambassadors, this wouldn’t have been possible so this is real recognition to them. In essence this is an award for partnership working.”
Arwel Ellis Owen, Chair of the Social Care Accolades judging panel, said, “The Accolades play a key role in drawing attention to the great things that can be achieved by those working in social work and social care, but they go even further by providing an important platform for sharing good practice.
