A new programme of funding aimed at supporting local social enterprise initiatives will be launched at a conference in March. The idea behind the event is to explain the Council’s approach to social enterprise, to learn from examples of good practice and to look at existing social enterprise initiatives in the County. The fund will be aimed at providing financial support to new or existing initiatives.
Flintshire County Council is committed to developing social enterprise, believing that businesses that reinvest the profits back into the business or local community will improve local business, develop skills and opportunities and improve and compliment existing services for residents, as set out in the Council’s Improvement Plan and Regeneration Strategy.
The conference will be held at Coleg Cambria, Connah’s Quay on Friday 7 March from 9.30am-1pm and is open to anyone with an interest in social enterprise.
It aims to clarify how to compete for contracts not only with the council but also with other public sector organisations. There will be the opportunity to showcase existing social enterprises, to network with experts at a question and answer session as well as to find out more about the programme of funding. Guest speakers will include Social Firms Wales, Deeside College and Knowsley Council along with Flintshire Council officers.
Councillor Aaron Shotton, Leader of the Council said:
“The Council sees the creation of social enterprises as a way of supporting the local community with jobs and skills. The conference will raise awareness of a style of business that puts all profits back into the community and we want to encourage as many people as possible to get involved.”
