Motor cyclists across South Wales are being urged to ‘Ride Out Ride Right’ in a bid to reduce the number of deaths and injuries to motorcyclists in road traffic collisions on roads.
South Wales Fire and Recue Service recently launched ‘Ride Out Ride Right’ – an intelligence led motorcycle safety initiative.
“Safety and Road Traffic Collision (RTC) reduction remains a high priority for the three Fire and Rescue Services in Wales. Motorcycle deaths and injuries on our roads are unacceptably high. The ‘Ride Out Ride Right’ initiative will attempt to reduce these numbers and the heartbreak they cause, through effective engagement and efficient partnership working” said Rob Morris, Head of Community Safety.
He continued “Firefighters are often the first to arrive at the aftermath of a road traffic collision so they know all too well the devastating consequences of drivers and riders taking to the roads without proper training on hazard awareness and equipment”.
“The majority of motorcycle accidents occur when a rider fails to cope with the environment, with 95% of all accidents involving some form of human error. “Ride Out Ride Right” is a motorcycle road safety programme that aims to reduce these motorcycle accidents by enhanced engagement with all motorcycle groups, promotion of existing skill development programmes and providing road safety tips to riders”.
With nearly 60 years of motor cycling experience between them, Sean Mcaloon, Dominic Stokes and Mike Wyatt are the three highly experienced riders that make up the South Wales ‘Ride Out Ride Right’ team. They will use their motorcycle skills and experience to engage with the rider communities across South Wales.
A major tool to aid this engagement with the communities is the Ducati 1198S motorcycle chosen for its ‘wow factor’ amongst motorcyclists in South Wales that will be travelling with the team.
