Wrexham & Flintshire County Borough Councils in conjunction with Disability Sport Wales are holding a Special Olympics Taster Day at Clywedog Sports Centre on Saturday 6th November 2010.
The event aims to raise awareness and encourage the number of young people and adults with a learning disability to take part in sport and physical activity across the North East Wales area.
Attendees will have an opportunity to get involved with a number of sports they might never have considered before including football, basketball, golf, athletics, cricket and badminton. Local clubs such as Brickfield Rangers Football Club and Mold Magic Basketball Club are supporting the event and are keen to raise the profile of disability sport in the area.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Wrexham, Councillor Jim Kelly KSG and his wife Elizabeth Kelly, together with Lesley Griffiths AM will be in attendance at the FREE community event which will run from 10am until 4pm at the Clywedog site located on Ruthin Road, Wrexham.
Councillor Bob Dutton OBE, Lead Member for Communities and Performance said:
“The taster day is a great opportunity for young people and adults with a learning disability across the area to get involved and try out new sports.
“There is not only a commitment to providing quality coaching and improving participation levels but also providing a sense of team spirit and building friendships.”
