SWALEC Bowl draw

The SWALEC Bowl has reached the round three stage with four minnows still dreaming of emulating Abercarn who beat Trebanos to win last year’s final.

Shotton Steel overcame Welshpool 27-24 in round two and they entertain COBRA of Two North who will find the steelmen hard to beat on their own patch.

Cardiff University won 27-13 at Cardiff HSOB in round one, followed that with an equally impressive 25-15 success at St Joseph’s, but must travel once again in round three when they visit Abercwmboi, also of Four South East. The Students will do well to claim a third scalp from that division.

Cardiff Medicals deserve their place in round three after a 60-0 victory at Dinas Powys followed by a 52-5 success over Canton in the last round. They make the short trip to Old Illtydians for an all-Cardiff clash but will find the Old Boys of Five South East much sterner proposition.

The fourth minnow remaining in the draw is Llangollen who defeated Harlech 31-3 in round two. They play host to Two North’s Bala hoping to maintain their progress.

Four East’s Senghenydd beat holders Abercarn 42-15 in round two and they will be aiming to go one better than their semi-final placing in the Bowl last season. Cwmbran have already lost 25-7 at the Welfare Ground in the league this year and the unbeaten leaders of the division will be aiming for a cup and league double.

Tenby United are going well in Four West with only one defeat to date and a 38-8 victory over Llangwm has put them in round three of the Bowl where they entertain Fishguard of Five West. The Seagulls are unbeaten in their league and will give the Seasiders of Tenby a tough afternoon at Heywood Lane.

Newtown meet Wrexham in an all-Two North clash at the Recreation Ground. Newtown defeated Denbigh 38-23 while Wrexham had a walkover against Benllech. The home side already have a league victory over Wrexham this season and will be confident of making further progress.

Six West leaders Pantyffynnon beat Penygroes 35-23 to set up a visit to Burry Port in round three. The Five West club just edged out Fall Bay 5-0 but they are unbeaten at home in the league and will provide tough opposition.
