Speedway at Millennium Stadium Travel Advice

StadiumThe 2014 FIM British Speedway Grand Prix returns to Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium on Saturday, 12 July 2014. A crowd of 40,000 is expected for the event. Cardiff City Council is offering the following travel advice.

The event begins at 5pm with gates opening at 3pm. It is planned to finish at 8pm, however this could be extended in the event of crashes.

For those travelling by car, park and ride sites can be accessed from M4 junction 29 at Pentwyn and M4 junction 33 at Cardiff City Stadium. The drop-off point for the Pentwyn (white car park) park and ride is Churchill Way and for Cardiff City Stadium (yellow car park), it is Tresillian Way North, at the rear of the train station. The cost is £10 per car.

All park and ride customers are advised to follow the signage at the time of their arrival. The car parks will have a staff presence from 9am and will open at 9:30am, with the first bus at 9:30am. The last bus will leave the pick-up point at 10:30pm, with the car park closing at 11pm.

Coach parking can be accessed from J32 of the M4. Coaches are advised to follow signs to the dedicated coach parking area in Sophia Gardens. The cost is £15 per coach. Any event car parking in Sophia Close will cost £10 per car.

There will be a closure of Wood Street from its junction with Scott Road to its junction with Havelock Street from 12 – 3pm for the Fan Zone. In addition, there will be a small stadium city centre road closure from 3pm – 9:30pm.

The following roads are closed: Tudor Street from its junction with Clare Road to its junction with Wood Street (access for residents & traders will be permitted via Fitzhammon Embankment).

Plantagenet Street & Beauchamp Street from their junctions with Despenser Place to their junctions with Tudor Street (access for residents & traders will be permitted).

The following roads will be closed in their entirety: – St.Mary Street, Caroline Street, Wood Street, Central Square, Westgate Street, Quay Street, Guildhall Place, Golate, Park Street, Havelock Street & Scott Road.

The route to the front of the rail station, Station Approach in Central Square from its junction with Wood Street, will be closed from 11am – 10pm , with access for buses to the bus station being maintained outside of the full Wood Street road closure times.
