Sport.Cardiff Let it all Grow

Things are expected to get a bit hairy amongst Cardiff Council’s sports development team this month as officers prepare to grow moustaches for charity.

Eleven members of Sport.Cardiff, led by Sports Development Manager Steve Morris are participating in Movember, a charity campaign that challenges men to change their appearance and the face of men’s health by growing a moustache for the entire month of November.

Movember aims to raise awareness of men’s health issues and focuses on raising money for prostate cancer, the main cancer that affects men. Funds raised through the campaign will go to the UK’s leading charity for the disease, The Prostate Cancer Charity (TPCC).

Executive Member of Sport, Leisure and Culture, Cllr Nigel Howells, said: “The Movember campaign is a fun way in which to raise awareness and funds for a serious cause. I am thrilled that the Sport.Cardiff team are getting involved and I encourage people to join in their enthusiasm for such a worthwhile charity.”

The rules for the campaign are simple; participants must start the beginning of November clean shaven and then grow a moustache for the remainder of the month.

Sport.Cardiff are appealing to people to join their team and either grow a moustache as a Mo Bro or join as a Mo Sista to help raise cash for the cause.

Sport.Cardiff focuses on the improvement of grassroots sport development in schools, clubs and communities across the city.  The department aims to enrich the lives of the people of Cardiff through clubs, coaching and competition with a focus on children and young people.
