St David’s Week events to headline at the Brangwyn Hall this Spring

One day was never going to be enough to celebrate our Patron Saint.

This is why Swansea Council and partners have announced the return of St David’s Week, a week- long celebration which will commemorate Wales’ patron saint and celebrates the city’s rich Welsh heritage of music, food, dance, poetry and culture.

The celebrations take place at a number of locations across the city but, once again, the Brangwyn Hall will play a leading role in the week with a great programme on offer.

Welsh tenor Wynne Evans headlines the festival with the Morriston Orpheus Choir on February 25. Wynne is famous for singing and starring in a TV advertising campaign that has made him a household name as spoof opera star Gio Compario.

Then on February 26, the spectacular Phil Dando Big Band hosts a St David’s Ballroom Dance featuring two hours of live music and dancing.

Two unique Welsh films will be screened for free on February 28 and March 1 – Fortissimo Jones and Martha Jac a Sianco.

Over 200 children will also sing their hearts out at the Saint, Songs and Celebration on February 29 with a very special St David’s celebration concert.

Then on March 2, people can learn how to dance Welsh-style at a traditional Twmpath with top Welsh folk group Jac Y Do.

Frances Jenkins, Swansea Council’s Strategic Manager for Tourism, Marketing and Events, said: “St David’s Week is a unique week-long celebration that Swansea can be proud of.  It’s packed with lots of different events and a music line-up that is yet to be rivalled.

“We hope that residents and visitors will join in our cultural celebrations during this memorable week in Swansea.”
