Staff from North Wales Police have raised almost £750 for charity after walking up the highest peak in England and Wales.
Fourteen members of staff from the Force’s iGroup – which have overall responsibility for ICT infrastructure, Business Support and Analytics, walked up Snowdon on Saturday (8th May) in memory of a dear colleague, Jan Watson, who lost her battle with cancer back in 2008.
As a result of their efforts almost £750 has been raised for Tŷ Gobaith – a charity which was close to Jan Watson’s heart.
“In 2008 we lost our dear friend and colleague after a courageous battle with cancer so we decided we wanted to do something special in her memory,” said Anne Hay from North Wales Police’s iGroup.
“Anyone fortunate enough to have met Jan would know what an inspiration she was to us all, a lady with a huge heart who remains a sorely missed member of our team.
She added: “The weather was sunny, windy and very cold but a clear day with wonderful views so we were really lucky.
“It took us four hours to reach the summit but it was all worth it knowing we were raising cash for such a worthy cause.”
Tŷ Gobaith Fundraising Manager, Sarah Kearsley-Wooller MBE said: “We are very grateful to Jan’s family and colleagues for their energies in scaling the heights of Snowdon in her memory. The excellent sum raised is a tribute to a very special lady and a tremendous supporter of Tŷ Gobaith.
“We would like to take this opportunity of thanking everyone who sponsored team members – with their support we can continue to make the most of short and precious lives at Tŷ Gobaith – the only children’s hospice in North Wales.”
