Staines come to Newport

Newport CountyNewport County will be back in Blue Square South action on Saturday when they play host to Staines Town.

A positive week for the club began with last Saturday’s progress in the FA Trophy and several key players have since penned new deals at Syptty Park.

The success at Farnborough has earned the Exiles a potential home draw in round two against Blue Square Premier side York City. The Minstermen need to overcome Hinckley United in a replay to set up an intriguing tie in South Wales.

County’s immediate attentions will be another three points to continue their dominance of the division and they will be hot favourites for victory against 14th placed Staines.

A win would be the ideal preparation for a busy Christmas/New Year period – a period where County could make large strides to securing promotion.

Their cause has been boosted by the signatures of captain Garry Warren and Danny Rose until at least April 2012. The deals follow Sam Foley agreeing to stay for a further two years and Craig Reid signing until April 2011.

Skipper Warren said: “I’m very pleased to be staying on and I just hope we can go on to finish the job this season and clinch promotion.”

County boss Dean Holdsworth is already planning for next season and was especially pleased to have tied up deals for four of his best assets: It’s key to keep the squad together, to keep that continuity going, and protect ourselves as a club.” The Exiles manager also suggested that talks are being held to keep more players at Spytty Park into next season.
