People looking to get fit and lose the festive fat now have more help than ever to get outside and take a stroll thanks to an innovative new walking card.
The pack of 16 cards is free and includes details of both urban and rural walks across Swansea. The level of difficulty, the length of the walk and directions are among the information included.
Swansea Council’s development and outreach team designed the cards thanks to funding from the Sports Council for Wales.
It’s hoped the cards will encourage people to exercise and lead healthier lifestyles.
Paul Whapham, Swansea Council Senior Physical Activity Development Officer, said: “Using the walking cards is an easy way for people to start to lead a more active lifestyle. Walking with friends and family can be a good way to spend time together while working towards achieving 30 minutes of moderate physical activity five times a week.”
Cllr Graham Thomas, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: “This is a time of year when many people consider exercising more and walking is a wonderful way to keep fit and take in stunning scenery across Swansea.
“I’m sure the walking cards will be useful to many people. The cards will not only be an incentive to exercise but they’ll also help people decide where to walk.”
